Cora has really started to notice things around her in these last couple of weeks. She's been noticing things around her for a while already, like the fan, paintings on the wall, and of course, mom and dad. But just these last two weeks I've seen her really notice the dogs and study them for a while. Obviously they have been around her this whole time, but it was great when I noticed her watching them run around on the back of the couch. She's also really been studying the patterns and colors on her pajamas. I really love that she's discovering the world around her!

I really can't wait until I can start teaching her and helping her explore. I've pinned so many things on Pinterest that I want to do with her once she gets good use of her hands! In her first couple of months I was always afraid that I wasn't stimulating her enough. I still feel that way sometimes, but at least now I can tell when she's having fun. Our typical play time and learning time consists of reading a couple of books, playing with her favorite owl toy, spending time on her play gym, tummy time, singing, and of course, Sesame Street! Sesame Street is what taught me to read at age 3 so I would be thrilled if that happened to her too. She seems to really like it so far, and I'm glad. Usually she only watches it in 20-30 minute sessions before she fusses and wants to get up and do something different. I think she really likes it though because any other kid show I've put on for her she loses interest in quickly. I am really trying not to show her too much TV though. One hour a day is definitely plenty for her already, and I hope to keep it at just Sesame Street into her toddler years as well. I just want her to be excited to interact with Adam and me and to learn instead of to just want to veg out in front of the TV. I know I've built up a habit of watching countless hours on TV in one sitting, but with Cora here I'm hoping she'll help me break it! I will admit, her first few months I watched a lot of TV still while breast feeding and while she napped. I would just build up Friends reruns on the DVR and then watch 5 or 6 a day, on top of the other current shows I love. Now besides Sesame Street, I don't watch any other TV while she's awake during the day, but at night we do watch some TV when Adam is home. I know Adam wants to unwind by watching some TV after a long day of work, but I'll still try to turn Cora around on my lap and we'll play with her toys. Cutting back on TV is definitely one of the harder transitions I've made!
I've started doing tummy time every day, but she still hates it. She might be OK with it for a little while, but it quickly evolves into her lowering her head and crying. She hasn't rolled over that much since the first day she did it either. I try to distract her with her favorite toys, but eventually she realizes that she's on her tummy and she wants to be flipped back around. At least, she is getting closer and closer to that 90 degree angle! I will just have to power through and keep putting her on her tummy for a little bit every time she's awake.
Cora actually enjoying tummy time for a fleeting moment since she's getting support from her favorite owl!
After my last post I decided it's time to start getting back into shape. I only have 10 pounds to go to get to my pre-pregnancy weight, but I have 25 pounds to get to my pre-Adam weight! Before I met Adam I ran 3 miles every day and that (plus being young) was enough to keep me pretty lean. Then we started dating and all exercise stopped completely, we ate out for every meal, and I quickly gained 20 pounds! Once he proposed I knew I had to lose weight for the wedding and started Weight Watchers. It got me down 10 pounds, but I never did get back to my pre-Adam weight. I think if I can get back into the 120's I'll be pleased! My days in the 110's may be long behind me. For the time being I really need a workout that's not too long and will let me get the exercise in while Cora is napping. After looking online I was so happy to find the Bikini Body Mommy Challenge! It's a 90 day challenge so hopefully I can keep it up. I really recommend it so far to any other mommy (or non-mommy!) who is looking to lose some weight. The day 1 workout will take less than 10 minutes, but I promise it's a killer! It's a fitness test of 8 different exercises with only 10 seconds to rest in between. I felt like jelly right after and was sore just an hour later! Normally the soreness takes a day or two to catch up to me. If anyone else does decide to take the challenge, please let me know! I would love to have a challenge buddy and we can cheer each other on!
